
Prof. Dr. Imam Uddin

Prof. Dr. Imam Uddin is a distinguished professor of Islamic economics, banking, and finance, and serves as the Founding Director of the Centre for Islamic Business & Finance. He is also the Head of the Department of Finance & Accounting at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), Karachi. In addition, he holds the positions of CEO and Managing Director at the Global Institute of Shariah Research & Advisory Services (Pvt) Ltd.
Prof. Dr. Imam's impressive academic credentials include a specialization degree in Islamic Jurisprudence (The degree of Traditional Mufti), a PhD in Islamic Business & Finance, Bachelor of Laws & legislation (LL.B), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Banking & Finance from reputable institutions. He earned his PhD between 2004 and 2008 under the Faculty of Management Sciences, focusing on the comparative analysis of the implications of partnership modes of Islamic financing on the structures of banking and non-banking financial institutions in emerging markets. He is also a Certified Shariah Advisor & Auditor by AAOIFI, an SECP-registered Shariah Advisor, and an HEC-approved PhD research supervisor.
Before his tenure at IoBM, Prof. Dr. Imam served as an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department at the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences at DHA Suffa University, as well as an Assistant Professor in Islamic Banking and Finance at the University of Balochistan Quetta and Mohammad Ali Jinnah University. He spent a decade at Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi and the Centre for Islamic Economics (CIE), recognized worldwide for its pioneering work in Islamic banking and finance education under the guidance of Shaikh UI Islam Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani.
Throughout his illustrious career, Prof. Dr. Imam has held several prominent positions, including Courtesy Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral fellow at Florida International University, Miami, USA, Member of Darul Ifta at Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi, Member of the Central Standing Committee on Islamic Economics, Banking & Finance at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry, and Member of various academic and advisory boards at both local and international universities. His professional journey includes over a decade of practical banking experience at the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), where he played a pivotal role in the Shariah compliance and product development team, expanding Islamic banking branches from six to approximately 200.
Prof. Dr. Imam has been deeply involved in contemporary research and has published numerous research papers and books on Islamic finance and banking. He has organized major international conferences and delivered lectures globally, further solidifying his influence in the field. He was awarded a fellowship from AIPS, USA, to deliver a lecture on Islamic Banking & Finance at Florida International University, Miami, and received a "Best Paper Award" from the Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah.
His extensive research includes numerous books, chapters, and research papers, with notable publishers including Routledge - Taylor & Francis Group, UK & IGI Global, USA.
