Hamid Hasan received his PhD in welfare economics from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia in 2012. Previously, he studied at the University of Cambridge, U.K. and International Islamic University Islamabad, Pakistan for his MPhil and MSc degrees. His teaching and research areas include welfare economics, happiness economics, Islamic economics, Islamic social finance, applied and theoretical econometrics, and human development and multidimensional poverty. His work is published in national and international peer-reviewed journals (ISI and Scopus Indexed). He presented his work in international conferences and workshops in the area of welfare at Oxford, U.K. in 2009 and 2017, workshops on constructing socio-economic index based on the topic of Maqasid-al-Shari’ah, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 2013 and Kaula lampur, Malaysia in 2014. He also received training in the area of randomized evaluation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
He was also a part of the workshop on Environmental and Energy economics held in Okayama, Japan in 2015 where he presented a research proposal on energy, environmental, and economic costs of industrialization in Saudi Arabia.
His expertise in econometrics, mathematical modelling and skill in randomized evaluation of social programs won him a consulting project to work with Dr. Asim Khwaja of Harvard University on the topic of ‘Socio-economic impacts of Hajj on Pakistani pilgrims’. He was also a member of the poverty estimation committee, Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Government of Pakistan.
