​“Equity and Investment-Based Contracts in Islamic Finance: AAOIFI Standards and Contemporary Implementation in North America”

This two-hour training covers practical, relevant insights on Islamic economic systems, followed by a discussion on the prohibition of riba. The session will conclude with an overview of Islamic contracts.

This two-hour training offers a practical, principled overview of equity-based and investment-based contracts in Islamic finance, grounded in AAOIFI Shariah standards.

1. Introduction to Islamic Economic System:​
  • Principles and rules of the Islamic economic system under Sharia’h
  • Comparison of Capitalism, Socialism, and the Islamic model
  • The objectives of distribution of wealth in Islam 

2. Riba, its types of prohibition:
  • Types of Riba: Riba Al-Nasiyah and Riba Al-Fadal
  • Distinctions between commercial interest, usury, and different forms of interest
3. Islamic Contract Structures:
  • Components and conditions of valid Islamic contracts
  • Categories of Bai’ (sale) including valid, void, defective, disliked, and prohibited sales
  • Options (Khiyars) in Islam

1. AAOIFI-Compliant Contract Structures:
  • Defining features and contractual requirements of Musharakah and Mudharabah as per AAOIFI
  • Treatment of shares and equity instruments within Shari’ah parameters
