Yamu Camra

Yamu Camara is the Co-Founder of DeenVest Capital, a Shariah-compliant real estate investment firm dedicated to acquiring and operating multifamily real estate without the use of interest-based financing. Through DeenVest, she is helping prove that investors do not have to compromise their faith to participate in large-scale wealth creation. Born and raised in a small village in The Gambia, West Africa, Yamu’s journey is one of resilience, faith, and determination. Orphaned at a young age and faced with significant hardships growing up, she remained committed to education and personal growth. In 2016, she was selected as a Mandela Washington Fellow, President Barack Obama’s flagship leadership program for young African leaders, where she studied at Northwestern University after being chosen from more than 40,000 applicants.
Before becoming a full-time entrepreneur and investor, Yamu served as a Senior Scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), applying data science and analytics to advance public health initiatives. She began her real estate journey in 2020 with the purchase of a $52,000 triplex using just $8,000 out of pocket. Since then, she has built a portfolio of 156 midterm rental units across multiple states and has helped educate and mentored than 1800 aspiring real estate investors. Today, her focus is on scaling DeenVest Capital’s mission of providing halal investment opportunities and demonstrating that significant wealth can be built while staying true. A sought-after speaker, educator, and advocate for ethical wealth building, Yamu speaks on entrepreneurship, real estate investing, faith-based finance, leadership, and overcoming adversity. Her message inspires audiences to pursue excellence, create generational wealth, and build businesses that align with their values.
Yamu is also known for her trademarked investing philosophy: “Don’t wait to buy real estate. Buy real estate and wait.”
